Balika Chetna Jagruti Abhiyan
Balika Chetna Jagruti Abhiyan was aimed towards empowering teenage girls who are reaching adolescence and would experience menstruation for the first time. Menstruation is a topic which is not discussed openly in Indian families, specially in villages. There are many myths around this particular topic, which leads to unhealthy and unhygienic ways and means to deal with it; Moreover, it also leads to low esteem and lack of confidence in the girls which impacts their overall growth as an individual. Looking at these issues RD Foundation felt the need to address this topic upfront.
We reached out to girls school and made them aware on the topic of menstrual cycle by means of vidoes and pamphlets. Female volunteers had open discussion with the girls and clarified their doubts. Girls were also taught about good touch – bad touch to ensure that they are aware and safe in difference situations.
This made the girls comfortable, more confident and prepares them to face a new situation in life. Throughout this campaign more than 30 schools were visited and over 100000 female students were addressed.
